Walk This Way: Walk a Guided Path

Walk This Way: Walk a Guided Path

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways .  Over the next 26 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day six with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a guided path.

Walk a Guided Path

When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.  For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life.
Proverbs 6:22-23 (NIV)

Have you ever been lost?  How did you get “unlost”?  Have you ever visited a place only to discover later that you had missed some of the best parts of that location because you didn’t know where they were?  What could you have done to facilitate a more complete visit?  How do you feel when someone asks you for tips on how to best enjoy something that you have already experienced?  Does that feeling change if you find out they didn’t follow any of the advice you had given?  Why?

Many times we miss out on the best part of our journey because we fail to look to God as our guide in everything.  God says that His words and commands should be a guide to our path in every area of our life.  As you pray, ask God to help you follow His instructions for the path you should be walking.  Pray that the godly teaching of right and wrong would guide you into wise decisions about how you will live.  Pray for the courage and humility to admit to God that you are lost and ask Him to guide you.  Pray that the way you live your life would guide others to Christ.

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Goodness

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Goodness

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways .  Over the next 27 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day four with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a path of goodness.

Walk a Path of Goodness

Then you will understand what is right and just and fair — every good path.
Proverbs 2:9 (NIV)

What is your standard for determining if a thought, a word, or an action is good or bad?  When you hear of someone being called a good person, what qualities about them come to your mind?  What are some tangible expressions of goodness that a person could show to you?  How often do you do those things for someone else?  How does wisdom from God help you to purify your definition of goodness?

Solomon says that God gives wisdom so that we would know how to walk a path that is right and just and fair — a path of goodness.  As you pray, ask God to fill you with a wisdom that can only come from Him.  Pray that your life would reflect goodness from His point of view.  Pray that you would be more concerned about how you represent the goodness of God than you are about others being good to you.  Pray that you would seek to know and do that which is right and just and fair.  Pray that the people around you would know the goodness of God because they see it expressed in the path you walk each day.

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Freedom

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Freedom

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways .  Over the next 28 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day four with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a path of freedom.

Walk a Path of Freedom

I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.   I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.
Psalm 119:32, 45 (NIV)

Do you usually think of laws as giving freedom or restricting freedom . . . Or some of each?  Why?  How do you feel when you find yourself in a situation that you are unsure about what is allowed?  How much freedom do you desire in the way you live?  How much freedom do you tend to allow others to have in the way they live?  How would your life change if you were to daily view God’s commands as “safety rails”, giving you freedom and protection to live life at full speed within them?

David says that he can walk about in freedom, even run in the path of God’s commands, because he seeks out God’s laws.  As you pray, ask God to help you see His love through the commands He has given.  Pray that you would learn to love the laws of God as you understand more fully their purpose in protecting you and giving you freedom.  Pray that you would help others to walk that same path of freedom without binding them with rules of your own making.  Pray for wisdom to not use your freedom as an excuse to sin or as a stumbling block to others.

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Fellowship

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Fellowship

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways .  Over the next 29 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day three with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a path of fellowship.

Walk a Path of Fellowship

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
1 John 1:7 (NIV)

Who do you enjoy spending time with?  Why?  From your perspective, what makes a person a good friend and someone you want to spend time with?  Of the qualities you just listed, how many are present in your life on a consistent basis?  What do you think of the statement, to have a friend you must first be a friend?  Are there times you can be a friend to someone that does not yet know how to be a friend?

Relationships with people are hard for me but I suspect that you know that because they are probably difficult for you too.  It is often our faults, our sins, that destroy the fellowship we long for with one another.  God says that when we walk in the light of Jesus we can walk in fellowship with one another because He cleanses us from all sin.  As you pray, ask God to help you walk daily in fellowship with Him.  Pray that you would know the fellowship of God’s presence as you forgive and are forgiven.  Pray that living in God’s forgiveness would help you to walk a path of fellowship with the people around you each day.
