These poems just keep coming,
I’m not for sure why.
They show up complete,
I don’t really try.
While listening to God,
they appear in my mind.
It’s not like I’m writing,
it’s more like I find.
I think that His purpose
is more than just one.
They help me, they help you,
sometimes they’re just fun.
When you are discouraged
and doubting God’s care.
Draw near as you trust Him
and know that He’s there.
Perhaps He will show you
in a way that is new.
His gifts and His mercy
each day are for you.
And if you don’t get
something you feel’s unique.
Don’t worry about it
if God’s face you still seek.
Just use what He gives you
in the way that you should.
Reach out and help others,
every day do some good.
God isn’t worried
if you can do what I do.
And He doesn’t call me
to be just like you.
So please be encouraged
with just who you are.
If your home is in heaven,
you’re bound to go far!

Since these poems began showing up in my head a month ago, I’ve been asking myself “Why?” and “Why now?”. I suppose God gave me this one tonight as part of the answers to those questions. I used to do quite a bit of short, devotional writing and really felt closely connected to God’s Spirit when we would work on those. Then I went through a stretch of time where it often didn’t seem like I had time to breathe, let alone spend needed time with God. I think the poems are a new thing to make sure I recognize that this is God’s gift and not simply a return to something that I thought I was good at. I pray that you recognize and acknowledge God’s gifting in your life, then use it for His glory.
In prayer,
Tom
