Walk This Way: Walk a Renewed Path

Walk This Way: Walk a Renewed Path

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways.  Over the next 11 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day twenty-one with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a path of renewal.

Walk a Renewed Path

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV)

Do you ever feel worn out?  I know, silly question, right?  Who doesn’t?  How did you get that way?  Did it happen overnight or was it a gradual culmination of things that slowly eroded the newness out of your life?  What does it take to renew your hope?  Your strength?  Your stamina and endurance?  How patient are you?  Do you expect complete renewal to take place overnight in a life that has taken years of neglect to wear down?  What could you accomplish if you were to walk a renewed path?

God says that we all grow tired and weary and that we all have times that we stumble and fall.  The good news is that He provides a renewed path when we put our hope in Him and wait on His timing.  As you pray, acknowledge the times when you are worn out and in need of renewal.  Pray that God would help you to wait upon the Lord as he renews the path for you.  Pray that you would consistently spend time with God and His Word in order to maintain this renewed path.  Pray that the people around you would be refreshed as they walk a renewed path.

Walk This Way: Walk a New Path

Walk This Way: Walk a New Path

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways.  Over the next 15 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day seventeen with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a new path.

Walk a New Path

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Romans 6:4 (NIV)

Do you like new places, new adventures, new paths?  What things excite you the most about the idea of going somewhere new?  What do you find most frightening about new things?  What does it take for you to leave a familiar path for something new?  Do you tend to cling to comfortable ways even when you know the familiar path is headed in the wrong direction?  When a path before you is closed, how do you decide on a new path to follow?  Why is it important to die to the old path before you can walk the new path?

I am often amazed at the things I find when I put the old ways behind me and venture on a new path.  Paul writes that when we are baptized into Christ we die to our old way of life so that we can be raised to walk a new path.  As you pray, ask God to help you let go of all that you have died to.  Pray that you would walk a path that brings glory to God in all that you do.  Pray that the new path you walk would always be grounded in the eternal Word of God.  Pray that the people around you would seek a new path because of your example in walking it with God.

In prayer,

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Love

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Love

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways.  Over the next 16 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day sixteen with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a path of love.

Walk a Path of Love

“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
2
 John 1:6 (NIV)

What are you willing to do for the people you love?  What do you actually do?  If there is a different answer to those questions, why?  How willing are you to do the things that someone you love asks you to do?  What might your unwillingness to do what someone asks say about your actual love of them?  How much does your obedience to God say about your love of Him.  How closely would you follow the Word of God if you deliberately walked a path of love each day?

God says that we express our love for Him by walking in obedience to His commands.  His commands are centered in His love for us and our response to Him should be centered in our love for Him.  As you pray, ask God to help you walk a path of love that is lived in obedience to Him.  Pray that your path would share the love of God to the people around you.  Pray that your motives for obeying God’s commands would always come from a heart of love for Him.  Pray that the people around you would come to know the joy that is found in walking a path of love.

Walk This Way: Walk a Living Path

Walk This Way: Walk a Living Path

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways.  Over the next 17 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day fifteen with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a path among the living.

Walk a Living Path

“For you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
Psalm 116:8-9 (NIV)

What makes a life worth living?  Do you feel that your day to day existence is filled with life?  Do you think that the people around you would say that you are full of life?  Why?  Do you think of your life in Christ taking place now or only in the future?  How might walking a living path today show that your soul has been delivered from death, your eyes from tears, and your feet from stumbling?  Why is it important to walk a living path before the Lord where you are at each day?

David writes that God delivered him in order that he would walk before the Lord in the land of the living.  He understood that he wasn’t rescued simply to be with God, he was rescued to walk a path among the living.  As you pray, ask God to help you remember all that you have been delivered from.  Pray that you would live life to the full as you represent Jesus in your daily activities.  Pray that you would daily understand how to live for God in your present circumstances.  Pray that you would be faithful in walking a path among the living.  Pray that the people around you would know hope because of your walk.

In prayer,

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Light

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Light

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways.  Over the next 18 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day fourteen with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a path of light.

Walk a Path of Light

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’
John 8:12 (NIV)

Have you ever stubbed a toe as you walked through a dark house at night?  Are there things that you like about darkness?  Why?  How does light improve your ability to walk?  How much light is required to dispel darkness?  How much of your life do you allow Christ to illuminate each day?  Are there parts of your life that you try to keep hidden in darkness?  What would it take to allow God’s light to shine in those dark regions of your heart?

I enjoy exploring and have taken tours in a variety of caves throughout the United States.  Every cave tour that I have been a part of includes a time when all of the lights are turned off and the visitors experience total darkness.  In the midst of this darkness a match or small penlight is lit and everyone watches in amazement as the details of the cavern come to light.  As you pray, ask God to fill you with the light of Jesus so that His presence in you overcomes all darkness.  Pray that you would daily walk a path of light as you follow Jesus in all things.  Pray that the people around you would come out of the darkness and into the light.

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Life

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Life

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways.  Over the next 19 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day thirteen with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a path of life.

Walk a Path of Life

“You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Psalm 16:11 (NIV)

How would you describe the quality of your life?  What does your answer depend on?  Do you like the way that your life seems to be headed?  Why?  Does the idea of a path of life seem elusive to you?  Is your life filled with the joy and contentment that you think it ought to have?  What things usually make you feel joyful?  What brings a sense of contentment into your life?  Do you think your life would feel more complete if you had greater levels of joy and contentment?

David writes that God has made known to him the path of life.  Following this path of life would fill him with joy in God’s presence and eternal pleasures.  As you pray, ask God to make known to you the path of life that is found in Christ.  Pray that you would be filled with the courage to walk this path of life.  Pray for the wisdom to seek the eternal pleasures that God offers rather than the temporary pleasures of the world.  Pray that the joy you experience as you walk the path of life would spread into the lives of the people around you.  Pray that your walk would lead to life.

Walk This Way: Walk a Level Path

Walk This Way: Walk a Level Path

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways .  Over the next 20 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day twelve with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a path that He makes level.

Walk a Level Path

“The path of the righteous is level; O upright One, you make the way of the righteous smooth. Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.
Isaiah 26:7-8 (NIV)

Do you enjoy walking?  Where is your favorite place to walk?  Why?  Why is walking a mountain trail typically more difficult than walking a city sidewalk?  What would make the mountain trail easier to walk?  Whether on a plateau or through mountainous terrain, a level path makes the journey less hazardous.  When rocks, tree roots, and other obstacles are removed, perhaps even asphalt laid down, we can walk a level path with little fear of tripping and falling.

God says that Christ makes our way smooth and our path level when we pursue the way of righteousness.  The righteousness we have in Christ removes the power of temptations that seek to make us stumble and fall.  As you pray, ask God to help you see the stumbling blocks that exist in the path you walk.  Pray that  your pursuit of a righteous life would lead you on a path that is level.  Pray that you would always follow a level path even when the way of life’s journey seems steep.  Pray that the people around you would notice your confident walk and also seek to walk a level path.

In prayer,

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Justice

Walk This Way: Walk a Path of Justice

Every day you and I face a variety of choices regarding the path we take.  Many things influence our decisions for both good and bad, yet God wants us to choose daily to walk according to His ways .  Over the next 21 days I will be sharing from the devotional journal, “Walk This Way”, with the prayer that it helps you to grow in your walk with God as you pursue a greater understanding of the path He calls you to.

Here is day eleven with an important reminder that walking God’s way will lead you on a path of justice.

Walk a Path of Justice

“I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.
Proverbs 8:20-21 (NIV)

How do you define justice?  When you think of justice, is it punishment or restoration that first comes to mind — or something else entirely?  Does you answer to that differ based on who the justice is being applied to?  Should it?  How do you think God defines justice?  What do you like most about God’s sense of justice applied to you?  If your view is different from God’s view, what do you need to change?

When the Bible talks about justice, it generally refers to the practice of making things right again.  You must not only deal with the consequences of wrongdoing, but take the necessary steps to bring about restoration.  As you pray, thank God that His justice made a way to restore you unto Himself.  Pray that you would continually walk a path of justice that both notices the wrongs you do and follows God’s ways in making them right.  Pray that your sense of justice would always be grounded in the righteousness of God.  Pray that the people around you would always receive treatment from you that is fair and just.

In prayer,

Tom
