Birth Announcements: The Son of Promise! (Sermon Audio)

~

This is the audio from the November 8, 2026 sermon, “Birth Announcements: The Son of Promise!”, shared by Tom Lemler at the Deer Run Church of Christ.

Genesis 15, 17, 18, 21

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)

As children of Abraham, grafted into the family through Jesus, we also become children of the promise.  We learn more about what that means when we look at Issac, the . . .

  • Silence of promise:  Genesis 15:1-5, 17:1-8, 17:19-22

    • As children of God’s promise it is important that we understand the silence of promise.  The time between God stating His promise and fulfilling it can often fill our hearts and minds with doubt.  God made a variety of promises to Abram, even changing his name to Abraham as a sign of the promises, yet in the silence Abram and Sarai chose to do things their own way rather than wait on God to fulfill His promise.  When you consider the problems caused by that reaction to silence, we would do well to learn patience during the times of silence following God’s promises to us.
  • Observation of promise:  Genesis 18:6-15

    • As children of God’s promise it is also important that we participate in the observation of promise.  This is true both in the observation as we look carefully at the content of the promise, and in the observation in the keeping of the conditions of the promise.  After Abram and Sarai had tried to fulfill God’s promise on their own, God sends messengers to call them to a closer look at what God had actually promised when He gave them the new names of Abraham and Sarah.  When we find ourselves in the messes of our own making, we would do well to step back and truly observe what God has promised to all who call upon His name.
  • Nature of promise:  Genesis 21:1-7, Galatians 4:28

    • As children of God’s promise we must accept the nature of promise.  A promise is something that is made, or said, in regard to a future time.  It is that future nature of the fulfilled promise that we only see by faith until the proper time comes for it to be fulfilled.  When we choose to die to self and live for Christ, we do so by faith in the promise of God and in the nature of God to keep His promises.

Today, how will the SON of promise change you?
