Encouragement and Prayer: Serve Wholeheartedly! (9/26/24)

This is the audio from the September 26, 2024 live social media broadcast of encouragement and prayer by Impact Prayer Ministry’s director, Tom Lemler.

“This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.  . . . So he said, ‘These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth.’”
Zechariah 4:6 & 14 (NIV)

This week’s prayer emphasis will focus on living with a vision to serve.  God makes it clear in His Word that we serve Him when we serve people.  While the world often defines greatness based on power and who you have serving you, God says that to be great you must become servant of all.  Pray for a spirit of humility to guide you as you serve people wherever you are.  Pray that God’s love would be seen and felt through you as you serve.  Pray that your commitment to serving would be an example for others.  Pray about how God would use your service to teach and train others to join in a lifestyle that serves.  Pray for discernment and wisdom to see beyond and through the divisiveness of this world so that you would love others as God loves both you and them.

“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men.”
Ephesians 6:7 (NIV)

As you pray this week, ask God to help you to not only see opportunities to serve, but to give you the courage to actually serve.  Pray that you would serve others with a whole heart, just as you would if it were Jesus being served.  Pray that you would keep your eyes fixed on Jesus as you serve.  Pray that you would know the joy and contentment that comes from serving wholeheartedly.

Godly Vision – A Vision To SERVE! (Sermon Audio)

Godly Vision – A Vision To SERVE! (Sermon Audio)

~

This is the audio from the September 22, 2024 sermon, “A Vision To Be SERVE!”, shared by Tom Lemler at the Deer Run Church of Christ.

Text: Zechariah 4

“Also a dispute arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.  Jesus said to them, ‘The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors.  But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.'”
Luke 22:24-26 (NIV)

As God revealed Himself in Old Testament times to His chosen people, He often did so in visions seen by His prophets.  Zechariah was one of those prophets who was given a series of godly visions to share with God’s people of his time and with God’s people of today.  Today we continued a sermon series from the book of Zechariah as we consider how his godly vision should teach us now.  As we gaze into God’s Word, we find this Godly Vision looked forward to the coming of Jesus and the work He would accomplish through His life, death, burial, and resurrection.  As we return to God from wherever we are, we find He fills us with a vision to . . .

  • SeeZechariah 4:1-3

    • A vision to be serve requires a willingness to see.  We must open our eyes to see our own need, the needs of others, our own abilities, and the ability of God to work in us and through us.  When we see the need, we can choose to serve.
  • Explain:  Zechariah 4:4-6

    • A vision to serve will often need someone to explain the very things we see.  We turn to God’s Word for the explanation of how the works of service can be accomplished.  We find wisdom from His Spirit in being able to explain to others about a God who calls all people to serve Him.
  • Rebuild:  Zechariah 4:7-10

    • A vision to serve will call for us to be rebuilt into the image of God.  We started there, God created mankind in His image, but we have reaped the destructive nature of sin such that serving does not often feel natural.  When God chooses to have His temple rebuilt by His Spirit, it is you and I who are being rebuilt into the very dwelling of God.
  • Verify:  Zechariah 4:11-12

    • A vision to serve will lead us to a need to verify God’s directives and our own desires . . . and to be clear on which is which.  When we face times of uncertainty, God desires to bring clarity as we draw near to Him.  As we gaze into God’s Word and we consider His work in our life, we are able to verify His goodness, mercy, and love is not just for us, but for all mankind.
  • Exalt:  Zechariah 4:13-14

    • A vision to serve will always lead us to exalting Jesus if that vision is a godly vision.  With Jesus as the vine, all people are called to be one of the branches which are anointed to serve the Lord.  It is in the ways we serve others that we best honor the name and character of Jesus.

Today, how will you SERVE?

Encouragement and Prayer: Cleansed By the Blood of Jesus! (9/20/24)

Encouragement and Prayer: Cleansed By the Blood of Jesus! (9/20/24)

This is the audio from the September 20, 2024 live social media broadcast of encouragement and prayer by Impact Prayer Ministry’s director, Tom Lemler.

“The angel said to those who were standing before him, ‘Take off his filthy clothes.’  Then he said to Joshua, ‘See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put rich garments on you.’”
Zechariah 3:4 (NIV)

This week’s prayer emphasis will focus on being cleansed.  While we spend much time emphasizing the cleansing of our bodies and the things we can touch, God is even more concerned about our living as those who are fully cleansed from the inside out.  Pray that your life would be fully open to God as you look for areas that may need some extra cleansing this week.  Pray that you would worship God only and would always reject the idols of this world.  Pray for the courage to reject that which is false and to resist the temptation to compromise with the enemy.  Pray that your life would be a shining example of one who walks with God each day.  Pray for the wisdom to know what needs to be cleansed from your life . . . and for the humility to be one who is fully cleansed by God.  Pray that you would always speak words of healing and cleansing to the people around you.

“In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”
Hebrews 9:22 (NIV)

As you pray this week, ask God to increase your desire to “ascend the hill of the Lord”.  Pray that you would know the completeness of God’s forgiveness as you are cleansed by the blood of Jesus.  Pray that your obedience to Christ would fill you with the assurance of being fully cleansed by His blood in accordance with His laws.
